‘The Law of Attraction’ and your thoughts

The ‘New Thought’ movement of the early 19th-century and men like James Allen, Napoleon Hill, Emmet Fox, Ralph Waldo Emmerson, Charles F. Haanel, William Walker Atkinson, Wallace Wattles and others, built the foundation to the commonly known ‘The Law of Attraction’.

The ‘New Thought’ concept of the ‘Law of Attraction’ is rooted in various philosophical and religious traditions.

The ideas contained in ‘The Law of Attraction’ have philosophical roots that date back to these contributors and authors of the ‘New Thought’ movement, though the ‘New Thought’ concept of the ‘Law of Attraction’ is rooted in ideas that come from various philosophical and religious traditions.

In particular, it has been inspired by Hermeticism, New England transcendentalism, specific verses from the Bible, and Hinduism. It is evident then that the inspiration, ideas and philosophies of the early 19-th century thinkers were derived from studying ancient cultures, their thinkers and philosophers, who in turn gathered many of their ideas from observing nature.

In 1897 Ralph Trine wrote in In Tune with the Infinite:

The law of attraction works universally on every plane of action, and we attract whatever we desire or expect. If we desire one thing and expect another, we become like houses divided against themselves, which are quickly brought to desolation. Determine resolutely to expect only what you desire, then you will attract only what you wish for.

And in 1912 Charles F. Haanel wrote in The Master Key System:

The law of attraction will certainly and unerringly bring to you the conditions, environment, and experiences in life, corresponding with your habitual, characteristic, predominant mental attitude.

The infinite field of consciousness

The infinite field of consciousness includes All of Existence.

The internationally renowned psychiatrist, physician, researcher, spiritual teacher, lecturer, author, and developer of the Map of Consciousness, Dr. David Hawkins (1927 – 2012) stated that:

The infinite field of consciousness is All Present, All Powerful, and includes All of Existence. Thus, nothing can possibly happen outside its infinite domain because it is the Source of Existence. Within this infinite field of power, there are decreasing levels of energy fields. As they are expressed progressively in form (linearity), their relative power decreases all the way down to the individual.

The giant field could be compared to an immense electrostatic field in which the individual is like a charged particle that, because of the infinite power of the field, is automatically aligned within the field according to its individual “charge.” The charge of the karmic spiritual body is set by intention, decision, and alignment by intention.

It appears to naïve perception that what is not intellectually explicable seems to be “accidental,” especially when the event is unpredictable. Inasmuch as the infinite field of consciousness is unlimited in dimension, nothing can happen outside of it. All that occurs within it is under its influence, and therefore, nothing “accidental” is possible in reality.

Three central principles

The Law of Attraction and its magnetic power reaches out into the universe and attracts other thoughts that are vibrationally like it… and bring that to you.

So to put it into somewhat simpler terms, essentially, it could be stated that, The Law of Attraction and its magnetic power reaches out into the universe and attracts other thoughts that are vibrationally like it… and bring that to you. And so, you are getting the essence of what you are thinking about, whether it is something you want or something you do not want. It is a philosophy suggesting that positive thoughts bring positive results into a person's life, while negative thoughts bring negative outcomes, based on the belief that thoughts are a form of energy and that positive energy attracts success in all areas of life. We have shared some of our own experiences and the significant effects of the power of thought here.

Supporters of the ‘Law of Attraction’ suggest there to be three central universal principles that power it:

  1. Like is drawn onto itself, or like attracts like, suggesting that people, places or things similar to them are attracted to one another. This suggests and includes the very important dictum that people's thoughts tend to attract similar results. Everything that we perceive in our individual reality began with a thought.

  2. Nature dislikes a vacuum and proponents of this philosophy state that this aspect of the law of attraction suggests that removing negative things from your life can make space for more positive things to take their place. It is based on the notion that it is impossible to have a completely empty space in your mind and in your life. So then, since something will always fill this space, it is important to be aware of one’s choice to fill that space with positivity.

  3. The now, the present, is always perfect and with that, this aspect of the ‘Law of Attraction’ focuses on the idea that there are always things that one can do to improve the present moment focusing one’s energy on finding ways to make the present moment the best that it can be.

So this then brings us to the two crucial and most important aspects of the ‘Law of Attraction’, the first is consciousness. It is the basis to start from and very well stated here:

And as we had mentioned previously, a wonderful way to support the process of raising one’s consciousness are sound bathing and meditation.

The second aspect is summed up in the last five letters of the ‘Law of Attraction’, A-C-T-I-O-N. It requires diligent focused attention followed by proper action to allow the wanted parts to create and manifest. And a very helpful and powerful starting point to focused attention are what we have covered under visualizations and affirmations. And for individuals who want to turbo charge their visualization process we have created our Dyna-Mo™ service, a modern day multi-faceted and dynamic vision board.

Without exception, what you give thought to (wanted or unwanted), you begin to invite into your experience.

We would like to leave you with the following statements from the writings of Abraham Hicks, whose teachings formed the foundation for the documentary movie ‘The Secret’ by Rhonda Byrne in 2006.

  • Without exception, what you give thought to (wanted or unwanted), you begin to invite into your experience. See yourself as a magnet attracting onto you the essence of whatever you are thinking and feeling. For example, if you feel poor, you cannot attract prosperity… it defies the Law.

  • Every thought that you think that is directed toward what you want for your future is of great benefit to you. Every thought that you are thinking about your future that you do not want is a disadvantage to you. Where the thinking is of vitality and health, or decline and disease…you are prepaving your future.

  • As you focus on the best of what you do have, even if it only is a small part of your experience, the ‘Law of Attraction’ will now bring you more of the essence of that. And so, you can replace a ‘downward spiral’ with a fast moving ‘upward spiral’ by simply directing your thoughts more to things you do want.

  • Your thoughts are powerful, attractive magnets - attracting one to another. Thoughts attract to themselves, and you attract thoughts to you by giving your attention to them. Those who speak most of prosperity have it, and those who speak most of sickness or poverty have it. It is Law it can be no other way.

  • Whether you are thinking about something happening now, or something that happened in your past, or something you would like to have happen in your future - you are doing the thinking now, and it is this present thought vibration that the ‘Law of Attraction’ is responding to. Therefore - your power to create is now.
